Chime Loan Program

HANDCHIME GRANT PROJECT INFORMATION SHEET

“We are people united by a musical art.  We share a single passion: the love of music expressed through handbells and handchimes.  As the national organization of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers (and so too Area VIII) devoted to this medium, we articulate our vision for the future….We place the utmost value on the role of education at all levels of our organization.  Our education experiences are inclusive: for all ages, backgrounds and interests.”

Area VIII of the AGEHR wishes to encourage schools and other educational institutions (both public and private schools) to develop music education programs using handchimes and handbells.  To support the development of such programs Area VIII, of the AGEHR is offering a grant program to schools in its five state jurisdiction of Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri & Nebraska.  The Area VIII membership has purchased 2-three octave sets of handchimes for each state.

Listed below are some of the responsibilities and procedures for participation in the program:

The Area VIII responsibilities will include providing a 3 octave set of handchimes for one semester in total (about 4 months) with teaching materials, a support network and/or mentor, and educating recipients about the benefits and resources of the AGEHR, Inc. and MENC.

The School’s responsibilities will be to include the handchime program as a part of the regular schedule, with students being involved for an entire semester.  It will be expected that the school will replace any damaged materials, as well as pay (if needed) for the shipping fees and insurance for the return of the handchimes to Area VIII of the AGEHR.

The Music Teacher will be responsible for implementing the handchime program as a part of the total music experience.  The music teacher should present the handchimes to the student body and parents for at least one concert during the grant time.

Other expectations may be specified in the actual grant application from each state chair. Interested school or music teachers should contact the State Chair for further information.
